Woven
Woven is a realtime, generative animation system that creates a digital tapestry where each virtual thread moves independently in a woven, grid-like pattern. Different streams of information connect to each thread, creating a constantly moving tapestry that visualizes the tension between individual and larger structures. Designed to be modular, it adapts to various screen configurations.
Two Hearts was created using Woven. It interlaces poems by Emily Dickinson with those of Kim Myung Soon—a tragic, pioneering figure in Korean literature whose longing and unwavering conviction in art resonate across time and space. The accompanying music by composer Yoon-Ji Lee similarly weaves together cultural hybrids and contradictions: a fretless guitar performs Gayageum Sanjo in the style of Sung Geum-yeon, while an accordion plays Women’s Life, the 1968 South Korean megahit sung by Lee Mi-ja about women’s suffering and perseverance.
